A buzzing Keep Calm afternoon

The twitter sphere was buzzing on Tuesday last week, at this year’s highly successful ‘Keep Calm Prepare for Change’ event.

If you weren’t able to make it you can find out more from our storify here.

Our host for the afternoon was Manchester Metropolitan University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Jean Noel Ezingeard and the MC was our new regional chair – Rod Hyde. We heard  excellent thought provoking talks one from Matthew Taylor on ‘Power to Create’ and with an equally inspiring response from Mike Blackburn, Chair of the Greater Manchester LEP.

The student design competition, facilitated by the Manchester School of Architecture, was totally inspiring with seven shortlisted concepts from 48 entries. The wide range of innovative concepts presented by the students illustrated the design talent there is in Manchester. After a period of deliberation the judging panel: Prof Jean Noel, Matthew Taylor, Mike Blackburn, Kate Vokes, Atul Bansal and Prof Tom Jefferies declared ‘The Borrowers’ as the winning concept. Students Irina Teodora Adam, Mark Eden and Mohammad Izzard Abu Bakar.

We would like to give our warm thanks to former North West Chair Lily Barton for organising this, the third Keep Calm event and all our sponsors: MMU, Bruntwood, Sheila Bird Group, Corridor Manchester and UoM without their kind support and encouragement the event couldn’t have taken place.
